Based in Vermont, with deep roots in Texas public health. Available for projects nationwide.
With more than two decades of experience spanning local public health, community organizations, higher education, and multisector collaboratives, I bring a unique perspective to every project. I love working with people AND data, bringing a rigorous, pragmatic, collaborative, and human-centered approach to drive meaningful population health improvement.
My career began in local public health as a health educator focused on violence prevention and adolescent health at the Austin/Travis County Health Department, and later leading a youth development agency in San Marcos. That grounding in community-level work shaped how I approach research and evaluation today, with an eye toward what's practical and what actually reaches people.
I went on to earn my PhD in epidemiology at the University of Texas and spent six years as an assistant professor and Director of the Texas Health Improvement Network within the UT System, where I led applied population health research, managed statewide multi-sector health initiatives, and mentored graduate students. I've published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and have led grant-funded projects totaling over $900,000 in areas including maternal health, food access, social determinants of health, and rural healthcare. I continue to teach epidemiology and population health as an adjunct associate professor at the UT Austin School of Nursing, which keeps me connected to the next generation of public health practitioners.
Dedicated to the vision that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health.
These days I provide both formative and summative evaluations, needs and assets assessments, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and technical assistance on these and other needs. My primary clients are philanthropic and public health organizations.
